Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, pry bar, CV joint puller, grease.
  • Lift the vehicle securely using a jack and place it on jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel corresponding to the affected CV joint.
2. Remove the Axle Nut
  • Use a socket to remove the axle nut. This may require a breaker bar if it's torqued tightly.
  • Once removed, set the nut aside.
3. Disconnect the Lower Control Arm
  • Remove the bolts securing the lower control arm to the steering knuckle using a socket wrench.
  • Use a pry bar to gently separate the control arm from the knuckle if necessary.
4. Remove the CV Joint
  • Pull the CV axle out of the hub. If it's stuck, use a CV joint puller to assist in the removal.
  • Carefully slide the CV joint out of the transmission. Be cautious to not damage the splines or the transmission seal.
5. Install New CV Joint
  • Apply a small amount of grease to the new CV joint and the inside of the boot.
  • Insert the new CV joint into the transmission, ensuring it seats properly.
  • Reinsert the axle into the hub and secure it with the axle nut. Torque the nut to the manufacturer’s specification (typically around 150-175 lb-ft).
6. Reassemble Components
  • Reattach the lower control arm to the steering knuckle and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Replace the wheel and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
