Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, ratchet, extension, dielectric grease, anti-seize compound.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Allow the engine to cool down completely before beginning work.
2. Remove Engine Covers
  • Use a socket to remove any engine cover bolts.
  • Carefully lift the engine cover off and set it aside to expose the ignition coils and spark plugs.
3. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from each ignition coil.
  • Remove the bolt securing each ignition coil using a socket.
  • Gently pull the ignition coil straight out of the spark plug well. If they are stuck, a gentle twisting motion can help free them.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to carefully unscrew each spark plug from the engine.
  • Take care not to drop debris into the combustion chamber while removing the plugs.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs (optional but recommended).
  • Hand-tighten each spark plug into the cylinder head, then use a torque wrench to tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 13-15 lb-ft).
  • Note: Refer to the vehicle’s service manual for the exact torque specifications.
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Apply dielectric grease to the inside of each ignition coil boot to ensure a good seal.
  • Reinsert each ignition coil into its respective spark plug well and secure it with the bolt.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil.
7. Replace Engine Covers
  • Position the engine cover back on and secure it with the bolts removed earlier.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
