Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack and jack stands, strut spring compressor, pry bar, and safety glasses.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the ignition is off.
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the battery before working on electrical systems and allow the vehicle to cool if it has been running.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle depending on which strut is leaking.
  • Secure the vehicle on jack stands for safety.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Tool Required: Socket set.
  • Remove the lug nuts using the socket set and take off the wheel to access the strut assembly.
4. Remove the Strut Assembly
  1. Detach the Stabilizer Link:

    • Use a wrench to remove the nut securing the stabilizer link to the strut.
  2. Remove the Lower Strut Bolts:

    • Locate and remove the lower bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle using the socket set.
  3. Access the Upper Strut Mount:

    • Open the hood and remove any covers obstructing access to the strut mount.
    • Remove the nuts securing the strut to the upper mount using the socket set.
  4. Extract the Strut:

    • Carefully pull the strut assembly out of the wheel well; you may need to maneuver it slightly to clear surrounding components.
5. Replace the Strut
  1. Install the New Strut:

    • Position the new strut into place in the wheel well.
    • Secure the upper strut mount with nuts and torque them to the manufacturer's specifications.
  2. Reattach the Lower Strut Bolts:

    • Align the strut with the steering knuckle and insert the lower bolts. Torque to the specified values.
  3. Reinstall the Stabilizer Link:

    • Secure the stabilizer link to the strut and tighten the nut.
6. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle to the ground.
  • Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
