Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, compression tester, multimeter, torque wrench, socket set.
  • Clear any trouble codes from the vehicle's computer using the OBD-II scanner.
2. Replace Ignition Coil and Spark Plug
  1. Disconnect Battery: Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
  2. Remove Engine Cover: If applicable, remove the engine cover using the socket set.
  3. Access Ignition Coil:
    • Remove any components obstructing access to the ignition coil on cylinder 1.
    • Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil.
  4. Remove Ignition Coil:
    • Unscrew the ignition coil retaining bolt using a socket set.
    • Carefully pull out the ignition coil.
  5. Replace Spark Plug:
    • Use the spark plug socket to remove the old spark plug.
    • Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage.
    • Install a new spark plug, tightening to the manufacturer-specified torque (usually around 18-22 ft-lbs).
  6. Install New Ignition Coil:
    • Insert the new ignition coil into the cylinder head and secure it with the retaining bolt.
    • Reconnect the electrical connector.
  7. Reinstall Engine Cover: Reattach any components and the engine cover that were removed.
3. Fuel Injector Check
  1. Test Injector Operation:
    • Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the fuel injector for cylinder 1. Compare readings to manufacturer specifications.
    • If out of spec, replace the fuel injector.
  2. Install New Injector:
    • Remove the fuel rail if necessary to access the injector.
    • Install the new injector and reconnect it to the fuel rail and electrical connection.
4. Perform Compression Test
  1. Remove Spark Plug: Remove the spark plug from cylinder 1 again if not already done.
  2. Connect Compression Tester: Insert the compression tester into the spark plug hole.
  3. Crank Engine: Crank the engine for a few seconds and note the compression reading.
  4. Compare Readings: Ensure the compression is within specification for your engine. If low, further investigation into engine internals may be required.
