Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, fluid funnel, OBD-II scanner, leak detection dye (if needed).
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off before starting any inspection.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level against the dipstick or markings on the reservoir.
  • If low, add the recommended power steering fluid type (refer to the owner's manual for specifications).
  • Replace the cap securely.
3. Inspect Power Steering System for Leaks
  • Use a flashlight to examine hoses and connections for any signs of fluid leakage.
  • If leaks are found, mark the locations for repair or replacement of the damaged components.
4. Replace Power Steering Pump (if faulty)
  • Tools Required: Wrench set, torque wrench, fluid catch pan.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Drain the power steering fluid into a catch pan.
  • Remove the serpentine belt from the power steering pump.
  • Disconnect the pump hoses and electrical connectors.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the power steering pump and take out the pump.
  • Install the new pump, securing it with the mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.
  • Reconnect hoses and electrical connectors.
  • Refill the power steering fluid.
