Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, socket set, torque wrench, transmission fluid dipstick.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is turned off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to reset the system.
2. Check and Replace Transmission Fluid (if necessary)
  • Remove the transmission fluid dipstick and check the level.
  • If fluid is low or dirty:
    • Sub-steps:
      1. Raise the vehicle using jack stands for safety.
      2. Place a drain pan underneath the transmission pan.
      3. Remove the transmission pan bolts using a socket set, and carefully lower the pan.
      4. Drain the old fluid completely.
      5. Replace the filter if applicable.
      6. Reinstall the pan and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 8-10 ft-lbs).
      7. Fill the transmission with new fluid through the dipstick tube using a funnel, following the manufacturer's fluid specifications.
3. Reset the TCM
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
    2. Start the engine and allow it to idle for a few minutes.
    3. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to calibrate the system.
    4. Drive the vehicle for a short distance to allow the TCM to relearn shifting patterns.
4. Recheck for Codes
  • Use the OBD-II scanner again to check if the transmission light has reset and no new codes are present.
