Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather Tools: OBD-II scanner, socket set, fluid catch pan, funnel, and rags.
  • Safety Warning: Disconnect the battery before beginning work on electrical systems.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the Fluid Reservoir: Open the hood and find the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove Cap: Carefully remove the cap and check the fluid level.
  • Add Fluid: If low, add manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid until it reaches the proper level.
  • Inspect Fluid Condition: If the fluid is dark or contaminated, it may need to be flushed.
3. Inspect and Replace the Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Remove Drive Belt: Loosen the tensioner and remove the drive belt from the power steering pump.
  • Disconnect Hoses: Use a wrench to carefully disconnect the high-pressure and return hoses from the pump.
  • Remove Pump: Unbolt the pump from its mounting using the socket set and remove it from the vehicle.
  • Install New Pump: Position the new pump in place, bolt it securely, and reconnect the hoses.
  • Reinstall Drive Belt: Place the drive belt back on the pump, ensuring proper alignment.
4. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Fill Reservoir: Fill the power steering fluid reservoir to the recommended level.
  • Start Engine: Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to help bleed the system of air.
  • Check Fluid Level: After bleeding, check the fluid level again and add as necessary.
