my Honda Pilot YF3 (2016-2022) has a check engine light with code P0700

Solution

1. Preparation

• Gather necessary tools and parts.
• Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
• Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and securely lifted if needed.

2. Check Transmission Fluid

• Remove the transmission dipstick (if applicable).
• Wipe it clean, reinsert it, then remove it again to check fluid level.
• If low, top off with the recommended Honda ATF fluid (e.g., Honda ATF DW-1).
• Inspect fluid for discoloration; if burnt, a fluid change is necessary.

3. Inspect Wiring and Connectors

• Locate the TCM and visually inspect all wiring and connectors for signs of wear, corrosion, or disconnection.
• If any damage is found, repair or replace damaged wiring and connectors.

4. Replace Blown Fuses

• Locate the fuse box and check for any blown fuses related to the transmission control system.
• Replace any blown fuses with new ones of the same amperage.

5. TCM Testing and Replacement

• Using a multimeter, check the voltage at the TCM harness connector while the ignition is on (engine off).
• If voltage is absent or incorrect, trace wiring for faults. If TCM is confirmed faulty, replace it.
• To replace, remove the TCM mounting bolts, disconnect the harness, and install the new TCM in reverse order.

6. Reset Codes

• After completing repairs, reconnect the battery.
• Use the OBD-II scanner to clear the P0700 code and any other related codes.
