Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
  • Allow the vehicle to cool if the engine has been running.
2. Check and Replace Transmission Fluid
  1. Remove the transmission dipstick and wipe it clean.
  2. Insert the dipstick back and remove it again to check the fluid level.
  3. If the fluid is low, add the recommended transmission fluid (Honda ATF-Z1 or equivalent).
  4. If the fluid is dark or has a burnt smell, proceed to drain and replace the transmission fluid:
    • Remove the transmission drain plug and allow the old fluid to fully drain into a pan.
    • Replace the drain plug once drained.
    • Refill the transmission with the correct amount of new fluid as specified in the owner’s manual.
3. Inspect and Clean Components
  1. Remove any panels necessary to access the transmission control module (TCM).
  2. Disconnect the TCM electrical connector.
  3. Clean the connectors and the TCM housing with electrical contact cleaner.
  4. Reconnect the TCM and secure it back in place.
4. Test and Replace Throttle Position Sensor (if needed)
  1. Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the throttle position sensor (TPS) according to the specifications in the service manual.
  2. If the TPS readings are outside the specified range, remove the sensor:
    • Disconnect the electrical connector.
    • Unbolt the TPS from the throttle body.
  3. Install a new TPS and reconnect the electrical connector.
5. Reassemble and Reconnect
  • Reattach any panels or components removed during the process.
  • Reconnect the vehicle battery.
