Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the replacement.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and secure it with wheel chocks.
2. Remove Engine Covers
  • Remove any plastic engine covers or components obstructing access to the timing belt.
  • Use a socket set to remove bolts and carefully lift off the covers.
3. Remove Accessory Belts
  • Use a wrench to release tension on the serpentine belt tensioner.
  • Slide the serpentine belt off the pulleys and set it aside.
4. Drain Engine Coolant
  • Locate the drain plug on the radiator and drain the coolant into a suitable container.
  • Remove the upper radiator hose connected to the engine to gain access to the timing belt cover.
5. Remove Timing Belt Cover
  • Unscrew the bolts securing the timing belt cover.
  • Gently pry off the cover to expose the timing belt assembly.
6. Align Timing Marks
  • Rotate the crankshaft using a socket and ratchet until the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft gears align according to the service manual specifications.
  • Ensure the engine is at top dead center (TDC) on cylinder one.
7. Remove Timing Belt
  • Loosen the tensioner bolt and remove the timing belt from the pulleys.
  • Carefully slide the old timing belt off the camshaft and crankshaft gears.
8. Install New Timing Belt
  • Place the new timing belt over the gears, ensuring it is properly seated and aligned with the timing marks.
  • Tighten the tensioner bolt to the specified torque in the service manual.
9. Reassemble Components
  • Reinstall the timing belt cover, ensuring all bolts are tightened to the recommended torque.
  • Reconnect the upper radiator hose and refill the coolant.
  • Reinstall the serpentine belt and any engine covers that were removed.
10. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and check for any unusual noises or leaks.
