Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack stands, wheel chocks.
  • Lift the vehicle securely and place it on jack stands. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels.
2. Remove Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set.
      1. Identify the U-joint at both ends of the driveshaft.
      1. Remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential and transmission using the socket set.
      1. Carefully slide the driveshaft out from the U-joint, ensuring not to damage surrounding components.
3. Replace U-joint
  • Tools Required: U-joint press or hammer, safety glasses, grease.
      1. Position the U-joint in the U-joint press or place it on a solid surface.
      1. Use the U-joint press to push out the old U-joint from the yoke, or gently tap it out with a hammer if no press is available.
      1. Clean the yoke and lubricate the new U-joint with grease.
      1. Install the new U-joint into the yoke by pressing it in until it seats properly.
4. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench.
      1. Align the driveshaft with the differential and transmission.
      1. Secure the driveshaft by tightening the bolts with the socket set.
      1. Use a torque wrench to ensure the bolts are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications.
5. Final Checks
  • Tools Required: None.
      1. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and remove wheel chocks.
      1. Start the vehicle and check for any unusual noises or vibrations.
      1. Test drive the vehicle to ensure proper operation and confirm the issue is resolved.
