Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools including an OBD-II scanner, multimeter, spark plug socket, compression tester, and tools for vacuum leak inspection.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface with the engine off and cool.
2. Replace Spark Plug
  1. Remove Engine Cover (if applicable)

    • Unscrew any bolts holding the engine cover in place and lift it off.
  2. Remove Spark Plug

    • Disconnect the ignition coil connector from the spark plug.
    • Use a spark plug socket to carefully unscrew and remove the spark plug from cylinder 1.
  3. Install New Spark Plug

    • Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plug.
    • Hand-tighten the new spark plug then use a torque wrench to tighten it to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 13 lb-ft).
3. Replace Ignition Coil
  1. Remove Ignition Coil

    • After removing the spark plug, unscrew the bolts securing the ignition coil.
    • Carefully pull the ignition coil out of the cylinder head.
  2. Install New Ignition Coil

    • Position the new ignition coil and secure it with bolts, ensuring proper alignment.
    • Reconnect the ignition coil connector.
4. Clean or Replace Fuel Injector
  1. Inspect Fuel Injector

    • Remove the fuel injector by disconnecting its connector and unscrewing the retaining clips or bolts.
  2. Clean or Replace

    • If cleaning, use a fuel injector cleaner solution. If it is faulty, install a new fuel injector.
    • Reinstall the fuel injector and reconnect the connector.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reattach the engine cover and any components that were removed.
  • Reconnect the battery if it was disconnected during the procedure.
  • Clear the P0301 code using an OBD-II scanner.
