Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Flathead screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, socket set, throttle body cleaner, clean rags, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical short circuits.
2. Remove the Air Intake Hose
  • Use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp on the air intake hose connected to the throttle body.
  • Gently pull the hose off the throttle body and set it aside.
3. Remove the Throttle Body
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the throttle position sensor by pressing the tab and pulling it off.
  • Remove the bolts securing the throttle body to the intake manifold using a socket set.
  • Carefully lift the throttle body off the manifold, taking care not to damage the gasket. Set the throttle body on a clean surface.
4. Clean the Throttle Body
  • Spray throttle body cleaner generously on the inside of the throttle body, especially on the throttle plate and around the edges.
  • Use a clean rag to wipe away carbon buildup and dirt. Avoid using abrasive materials that can scratch the surface.
  • Open the throttle plate manually to access the inner surfaces and clean thoroughly.
5. Reinstall the Throttle Body
  • Place a new gasket (if necessary) on the intake manifold surface.
  • Position the throttle body back onto the manifold and secure it with the bolts. Torque bolts to manufacturer specifications (usually around 15-20 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the electrical connector to the throttle position sensor.
6. Reattach the Air Intake Hose
  • Reinstall the air intake hose onto the throttle body and tighten the hose clamp securely.
7. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and let it idle to ensure proper function. Check for any vacuum leaks around the throttle body.
