Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Oil filter wrench
    • Oil catch pan
    • Funnel
    • Rags
    • Torque wrench
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is turned off. Allow the engine to cool if it has been running.
  • Gather the necessary materials: new oil, new oil filter, and any necessary gaskets or seals.
2. Drain Old Oil
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Place the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
    2. Remove the drain plug using the appropriate socket (usually 17mm).
    3. Allow the oil to completely drain into the catch pan.
    4. Reinstall the drain plug and torque it to the manufacturer specification (usually around 30-35 ft-lbs).
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter. Ensure the oil catch pan is still in place to catch any residual oil.
    2. Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter.
    3. Install the new oil filter, hand-tighten it, and then turn it an additional 3/4 turn.
4. Add New Oil
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Remove the oil filler cap on top of the engine.
    2. Using a funnel, pour the correct amount of new oil into the engine (typically 5.5 - 6 quarts for Honda Pilot, check the owner's manual for specifics).
    3. Replace the oil filler cap securely.
5. Check Oil Level
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
    2. Turn off the engine and wait a minute, then check the oil level with the dipstick.
    3. Add more oil if necessary to reach the optimal level.
