Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery if working near electrical components.
2. Replace Worn Shock Absorbers
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack stands, and a spring compressor (if needed).
  • Remove the wheel on the affected corner.
  • Loosen and remove the nuts securing the top of the shock absorber to the vehicle's body.
  • Remove the bolts securing the bottom of the shock absorber to the lower control arm.
  • If the shock is under tension, use a spring compressor to safely remove the coil spring from the strut assembly (if equipped).
  • Install the new shock absorber in reverse order, ensuring all bolts and nuts are torqued to manufacturer's specifications.
3. Replace Worn Suspension Bushings
  • Inspect bushings for wear; replace any that are cracked or deteriorated.
  • Tools Required: Socket set, pry bar, and torque wrench.
  • Use the pry bar to remove the old bushings from the control arm.
  • Install new bushings, ensuring they are seated properly.
  • Torque all components to the specified values.
4. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Test drive the vehicle to ensure the thumping noise has been resolved.
