Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the replacement.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical short circuits.
  • Allow the engine to cool before starting work on the exhaust system.
2. Locate the Oxygen Sensor
  • Identify the location of the oxygen sensor (upstream or downstream) based on the vehicle's configuration (generally near the exhaust manifold for upstream, and near the catalytic converter for downstream).
  • Ensure the vehicle is securely lifted if necessary to access the sensor.
3. Remove the Oxygen Sensor
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the oxygen sensor.
  • Using an oxygen sensor socket or a wrench, carefully unscrew the sensor from the exhaust pipe.
  • If necessary, apply penetrating oil to the threads to ease removal.
4. Install the New Oxygen Sensor
  • Apply anti-seize compound to the threads of the new oxygen sensor to prevent seizing.
  • Hand-tighten the new sensor into the exhaust pipe to avoid cross-threading, then use the wrench to securely tighten it (typically 30-40 Nm or as specified by the manufacturer).
  • Reconnect the electrical connector securely to the new oxygen sensor.
5. Reconnect the Battery
  • Reconnect the battery terminals to restore power to the vehicle's electrical system.
6. Reset the Check Engine Light
  • Use an OBD-II scanner to clear any stored codes related to the oxygen sensor.
  • Alternatively, disconnecting the battery for a short time may also reset the check engine light.
