Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and materials: socket set, torque wrench, engine degreaser, rags, replacement gaskets or seals as necessary.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
2. Clean the Engine
  • Use engine degreaser to clean the front of the engine.
  • Rinse with water and allow to dry, making it easier to spot the source of the leak.
3. Replace Oil Filter (if leaking)
  • Remove the old oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
  • Lubricate the rubber gasket on the new oil filter with fresh oil.
  • Install the new oil filter and tighten it to manufacturer specifications (usually hand-tight plus a quarter turn).
4. Replace Gaskets/Seals

For Valve Cover Gasket:

  • Remove the valve cover by unscrewing the retaining bolts using a socket set.
  • Carefully lift off the valve cover and scrape off the old gasket material.
  • Place the new gasket onto the valve cover and re-install it, tightening the bolts to the specified torque (usually around 7-10 ft-lbs).

For Front Crankshaft Seal:

  • Remove any components obstructing access to the crankshaft seal.
  • Using a seal puller, remove the old crankshaft seal.
  • Install the new crankshaft seal, ensuring it is seated evenly and flush.
5. Refill Oil
  • Check the oil level and refill with the recommended oil type if low.
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes while observing for any new leaks.
