Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and securely supported.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Fluid Inspection
  • Remove the transfer case fill plug.
  • Check the fluid level; it should be at the lower edge of the fill hole.
  • If low, add the manufacturer-recommended transfer case fluid until it begins to seep out of the fill hole.
3. 4WD Switch and Wiring Inspection
  • Locate the 4WD switch on the dashboard.
  • Remove the switch panel and disconnect the wiring harness.
  • Use a multimeter to check for continuity in the switch. Replace the switch if faulty.
  • Inspect the wiring for any signs of damage or corrosion and repair as needed.
4. Check 4WD Actuator
  • Locate the 4WD actuator on the transfer case.
  • Disconnect the actuator wiring harness.
  • Test the actuator operation by applying 12V directly to the actuator. If it does not engage, replace the actuator.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reconnect all components and wiring.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the vehicle and test the 4WD operation by engaging the system and checking the indicator light.
