Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather Tools and Parts:
    • Required tools: jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, and a C-clamp.
    • Required parts: new brake pads, new brake rotors (if necessary), and brake grease.
  • Safety Warning:
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and engage the parking brake before lifting.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Steps:
    1. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
    2. Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle.
    3. Secure the vehicle with jack stands.
    4. Remove the front wheels completely.
3. Remove Brake Components
  • Steps:
    1. Remove the caliper bolts using a socket wrench.
    2. Carefully slide the caliper off the brake rotor and support it with a bungee cord or similar to avoid stressing the brake line.
    3. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
    4. If necessary, remove the brake rotor by unscrewing the retaining screws (if applicable) and sliding it off the hub.
4. Inspect and Replace
  • Steps:
    1. Inspect the brake rotor surface; if it is scored or warped, replace it with a new rotor.
    2. Apply brake cleaner to clean the new rotor and the caliper bracket.
    3. Install new brake pads into the caliper bracket, applying brake grease to the backing of the pads.
    4. If the caliper piston is not fully retracted, use a C-clamp to compress it back into the caliper.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Steps:
    1. Slide the caliper back over the new brake pads.
    2. Reinstall the caliper bolts and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications.
    3. Reinstall the wheels and tighten the lug nuts by hand.
    4. Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
    5. Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure proper pad seating before driving.
