Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Oil filter wrench
    • Socket set
    • Drain pan
    • Funnel
    • Clean rags
  • Parts Required:
    • New oil filter
    • Engine oil (check manufacturer's recommendation for type and quantity)
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Allow the engine to cool before working on it to avoid burns.
    • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely raised if necessary.
2. Drain Engine Oil
  1. Place the drain pan under the oil pan.
  2. Remove the drain plug using the socket set and allow the old oil to completely drain into the pan.
  3. Replace the drain plug and tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specifications (usually around 25-30 ft-lbs, consult the manual for specifics).
3. Remove Old Oil Filter
  1. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the old oil filter by turning it counterclockwise.
  2. Be cautious as some old oil will be trapped in the filter and will spill out.
  3. Clean the oil filter mounting surface on the engine with a clean rag to remove debris and old oil.
4. Install New Oil Filter
  1. Apply a thin layer of new engine oil to the rubber gasket on the new oil filter (this helps ensure a good seal).
  2. Screw the new oil filter onto the mounting surface by hand, turning it clockwise until it is snug.
  3. Tighten the filter according to the manufacturer’s specifications (usually hand-tight plus a quarter turn).
5. Add New Engine Oil
  1. Open the hood and locate the oil filler cap on top of the engine.
  2. Remove the cap and use a funnel to pour in the new engine oil.
  3. Check the owner’s manual for the correct oil capacity and type.
  4. Replace the oil filler cap securely.
6. Check for Leaks
  1. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
  2. Check around the oil filter and drain plug for any signs of leaks.
  3. Turn off the engine and check the oil level using the dipstick. Add more oil if necessary.
