Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the ignition is off.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Inspect and Replace Brake Fluid
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, container for old fluid, clean cloths.
  • Remove the cap from the master cylinder reservoir.
  • Inspect the brake fluid for contamination (should be clear, not dark or muddy).
  • If fluid is contaminated or low, siphon out the old fluid and refill with new DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid as specified by the manufacturer.
3. Bleed the Brake System
  • Tools Required: Brake bleeder kit, wrench, container for old fluid.
  • Start at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder, typically the right rear.
  • Attach the brake bleeder kit to the bleeder valve on the brake caliper.
  • Open the valve and have an assistant press the brake pedal slowly until fluid flows out without air bubbles. Close the valve and have them release the pedal.
  • Repeat this process for each wheel (right rear, left rear, right front, left front) until all air is removed from the system.
  • Check fluid level in the master cylinder frequently and top off as needed.
4. Inspect and Replace Brake Components
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack, jack stands.
  • If soft pedal persists, inspect the master cylinder and brake booster.
  • Remove the master cylinder from the brake booster following the manufacturer’s service manual.
  • Inspect for internal leaks or damage; replace if necessary.
  • Reinstall the new or refurbished master cylinder and ensure all connections are secure.
  • Recheck brake pedal feel after reassembly.
