Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts, and ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical issues while working.
  • Tools Required: Socket set, jack, jack stands, torque wrench, pry bar.
2. Inspect and Replace Damaged CV Joints
  • A. Raise the Vehicle:
    • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • B. Remove the Wheel:
    • Use a socket set to remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheel.
  • C. Inspect CV Joints:
    • Check the outer CV joint for torn boots or grease leakage.
  • D. Replace CV Joint if Necessary:
    • If damage is found, remove the CV joint by taking off the axle nut and separating it from the wheel hub. Install a new CV joint by reversing the removal steps. Torque the axle nut to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 130 ft-lbs).
3. Inspect Suspension Components
  • A. Check Control Arms and Bushings:
    • Use a pry bar to move the control arms and check for excessive play.
  • B. Replace Worn Components:
    • If any bushings or control arms are found to be worn, replace them using a socket set. Torque bolts to manufacturer specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Wheel Bearings
  • A. Check Wheel Bearings:
    • With the wheel off, try moving the hub assembly side to side to check for play.
  • B. Replace Wheel Bearings if Damaged:
    • If play is detected, remove the hub assembly and press out the old bearing. Install a new bearing using a bearing press and reassemble the hub. Torque the hub assembly bolts correctly.
