Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Small flathead screwdriver, multimeter
  • Ensure the vehicle is in a safe environment and the ignition is off.
2. Inspect Key Fob Battery
  • Carefully open the key fob using a small flathead screwdriver.
  • Remove the battery and check for correct polarity markings inside the battery compartment.
  • Reinsert the new battery ensuring it is seated correctly (positive side facing up).
3. Test Battery Voltage
  • Use a multimeter to measure the voltage of the new battery.
  • If the voltage is below 2.8 volts, replace with a new battery.
  • Reinstall the battery if it is functional, ensuring it is correctly oriented.
4. Check for Physical Damage
  • Inspect the key fob casing for cracks or damage.
  • Check the internal contacts for corrosion; clean with electronics-safe cleaner if necessary.
5. Reprogram the Key Fob
  • Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position (not starting the engine).
  • Press the unlock button on the key fob for 5 seconds.
  • Turn the ignition to OFF and then back to ON.
  • Repeat the process twice more for a total of three times.
  • Turn the ignition to OFF one final time and remove the key.
  • Test the key fob to see if it operates correctly.
