Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety during repair.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap.
  • Inspect the fluid level; if low, add the manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to circulate the fluid. Recheck the fluid level and top off if necessary.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if faulty)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, fluid catch pan
  • Remove the drive belt by loosening the tensioner.
  • Disconnect the power steering pump from the hoses and electrical connectors.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the pump and take out the pump.
  • Install the new power steering pump, ensuring it is correctly aligned.
  • Reconnect the hoses and electrical connectors, then reinstall the drive belt.
4. Bleed the Power Steering System
  • Tools Required: A helper for turning the steering wheel
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the appropriate fluid.
  • With the engine running, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to purge air from the system.
  • Check fluid levels and top off as necessary.
