Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: jumper cables, multimeter, battery terminal cleaner, wrench set, and safety gloves.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface, and the engine is turned off.
2. Inspect Battery and Connections
  • Sub-step 1: Open the hood and locate the battery.
  • Sub-step 2: Inspect the battery terminals for corrosion (white, powdery substance) and tightness. Clean the terminals with a battery terminal cleaner if necessary.
  • Sub-step 3: If the connections are loose, use a wrench to tighten them securely.
3. Jump-Start the Vehicle
  • Sub-step 1: Position a working vehicle close to the Honda Civic without letting them touch.
  • Sub-step 2: Connect the positive (+) jumper cable to the dead battery's positive terminal and the other end to the working battery's positive terminal.
  • Sub-step 3: Connect the negative (-) jumper cable to the working battery's negative terminal and the other end to an unpainted metal surface on the Civic (not directly to the battery).
  • Sub-step 4: Start the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes, then attempt to start the Civic.
4. Replace the Battery (if necessary)
  • Sub-step 1: If the vehicle starts after jump-starting, turn it off and disconnect the jumper cables in reverse order.
  • Sub-step 2: If the battery voltage is low or the battery fails the load test, remove the negative terminal first, followed by the positive terminal.
  • Sub-step 3: Remove the battery hold-down bracket using the appropriate wrench.
  • Sub-step 4: Lift out the old battery and install the new battery in the reverse order, ensuring connections are tight and clean.
