Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, power steering fluid, drain pan, funnel, new power steering pump, serpentine belt tool (if necessary).
  • Ensure the engine is off and cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Drain Power Steering Fluid
  • Place a drain pan under the power steering pump.
  • Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap and loosen the return line clamp.
  • Disconnect the return line and allow the fluid to drain into the pan.
3. Remove the Serpentine Belt
  • Use a serpentine belt tool to relieve tension on the belt tensioner.
  • Carefully slide the serpentine belt off the power steering pump pulley.
4. Remove the Power Steering Pump
  • Disconnect the high-pressure line from the power steering pump using the appropriate wrench.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the power steering pump to the engine block.
  • Carefully lift out the power steering pump from its mounting location.
5. Install New Power Steering Pump
  • Position the new power steering pump into the mounting location.
  • Secure it with the mounting bolts, tightening to the manufacturer’s specified torque (typically around 15-20 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the high-pressure line and ensure it is tight.
6. Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Reconnect the return line to the pump and tighten the clamp.
  • Fill the power steering reservoir with the recommended fluid type (typically Honda PSF).
  • Replace the reservoir cap.
7. Reinstall Serpentine Belt
  • Using the serpentine belt tool, place the belt back on the power steering pump pulley.
  • Ensure the belt is correctly aligned on all pulleys.
8. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and allow it to idle for a few minutes, checking for leaks.
  • Turn the steering wheel left and right to circulate the fluid and remove air bubbles.
