Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Tire iron, jack, jack stands, tire repair kit (plug kit or patch kit), soapy water solution, tire pressure gauge.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat, stable surface.
  • Park the vehicle and engage the parking brake.
  • Remove the hubcap if applicable.
2. Remove the Tire
  1. Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the tire is still on the ground.
  2. Use the jack to lift the vehicle until the tire is off the ground.
  3. Place jack stands under the vehicle for safety.
  4. Completely remove the lug nuts and take off the tire.
3. Inspect and Repair
  1. Inflate the tire to slightly above the normal pressure using an air compressor.
  2. Use the soapy water solution to identify the leak location (bubbles will indicate the leak).
  3. If the leak is due to a puncture:
    • For a puncture repair using a plug kit:
      1. Ream the puncture hole with the reaming tool from the kit.
      2. Insert the rubber plug using the insertion tool and pull it out to create a seal.
      3. Trim excess plug material.
    • For a patch repair:
      1. Remove the tire from the rim using a tire changing tool.
      2. Clean the area around the puncture with a wire brush.
      3. Apply vulcanizing glue and place the patch over the hole.
      4. Reassemble the tire onto the rim.
  4. Check the valve stem and replace if it is leaking.
4. Reinstall the Tire
  1. Place the tire back on the vehicle hub.
  2. Hand tighten the lug nuts.
  3. Lower the vehicle back to the ground and remove jack stands.
  4. Use a torque wrench to tighten lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 80-100 ft-lbs, check specific vehicle manual).
  5. Inflate the tire to the recommended pressure.
