Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, extension bar, dielectric grease, shop rag.
  • Ensure the engine is cool before starting the replacement.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Locate the ignition coils on top of each spark plug.
  • Carefully disconnect the electrical connector from each ignition coil.
  • Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using a socket wrench.
  • Gently pull the ignition coils straight out to avoid damage.
3. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Using a spark plug socket and extension, carefully loosen and remove each spark plug.
  • Turn counterclockwise until the spark plug is free.
  • Clean any debris around the spark plug hole with a shop rag to prevent contamination.
4. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the threads of the new spark plugs.
  • Ensure the spark plug gap is set to the manufacturer’s specification (typically 0.044 inches for Honda).
  • Carefully thread the new spark plug into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading.
  • Use a torque wrench to tighten the spark plugs to the manufacturer’s specification (usually around 13 lb-ft).
5. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Position the ignition coils back over each spark plug.
  • Secure each ignition coil with its mounting bolt and reconnect the electrical connector.
  • Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
6. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and check for smooth operation and any unusual noises.
