Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed for the replacement.
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set (10mm and 12mm sockets)
    • Torque wrench
    • Spark plug socket (with rubber insert)
    • Feeler gauge
    • Ratchet
    • Extension bar
  • Parts Required:
    • New spark plugs (ensure they are the correct specifications)
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Disconnect the negative battery terminal before starting work.
2. Remove Engine Cover
  • Locate the engine cover (if applicable) and remove the bolts using a 10mm socket.
  • Lift the cover off carefully and set it aside.
3. Access Spark Plugs
  • Disconnect the ignition coil connectors by pressing the tabs and pulling them off.
  • Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using a 10mm socket.
  • Gently pull the ignition coils out of their respective spark plug wells.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to carefully unscrew each spark plug from the cylinder head.
  • Inspect the old spark plugs for signs of wear or damage.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Check the gap on the new spark plugs using a feeler gauge and adjust if necessary according to the specifications (typically 0.044 inches for Honda Civics).
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs (optional, based on preference).
  • Carefully thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten using the spark plug socket. Torque to the manufacturer's specification (typically 13 lb-ft).
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Reinsert the ignition coils into their respective wells and secure them with the bolts previously removed.
  • Reconnect the ignition coil connectors until they click into place.
7. Reattach Engine Cover
  • Position the engine cover back on and secure it with the bolts using a 10mm socket.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is securely fastened.
