Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, ratchet, torque wrench, multimeter, dielectric grease, safety glasses.
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shock.
2. Remove Engine Cover (if applicable)
  1. Locate the engine cover and remove any fasteners (screws or clips) holding it in place.
  2. Carefully lift off the engine cover and set it aside.
3. Disconnect Electrical Connector
  1. Locate the ignition coil on the engine (there is one for each cylinder).
  2. Carefully press the release tab on the electrical connector and pull it off the ignition coil.
4. Remove Ignition Coil
  1. Using the socket set, remove the bolt(s) securing the ignition coil to the engine.
  2. Gently pull the ignition coil straight out of the spark plug well. If it is stuck, wiggle it slightly to loosen.
5. Install New Ignition Coil
  1. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the bottom of the new ignition coil to prevent moisture buildup.
  2. Insert the new ignition coil into the spark plug well, ensuring it seats properly.
  3. Secure it with the bolt(s) and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque value (typically around 7-10 lb-ft).
6. Reconnect Electrical Connector
  1. Align the electrical connector with the ignition coil and push it in until it clicks into place.
7. Reinstall Engine Cover (if applicable)
  1. Position the engine cover back onto the engine and secure it with the fasteners removed earlier.
8. Reconnect Battery
  1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
