Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, socket set, torque wrench, compression tester, multimeter.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Allow the engine to cool before proceeding with repairs.
2. Replace Spark Plug
  1. Remove the ignition coil by unscrewing the retaining bolts and disconnecting the electrical connector.
  2. Unscrew the spark plug using a spark plug socket.
  3. Inspect the spark plug for damage; replace it if necessary.
  4. Apply anti-seize compound on the threads of the new spark plug.
  5. Install the new spark plug and torque it to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 13 ft-lbs).
  6. Reinstall the ignition coil, securing it with bolts and reconnecting the electrical connector.
3. Test Ignition Coil
  1. Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the ignition coil.
  2. If the resistance is out of spec, replace the ignition coil.
  3. Reinstall the new ignition coil as described in the previous step.
4. Inspect and Test Fuel Injector
  1. Remove the fuel injector connector for cylinder 1.
  2. Use a multimeter to check for proper voltage at the connector while cranking the engine.
  3. If no voltage is detected, check the wiring and replace the injector if necessary.
  4. If the injector is faulty, replace it with a new one and ensure proper seating.
5. Compression Test
  1. Remove the spark plug from cylinder 1.
  2. Insert the compression tester and crank the engine for a few seconds.
  3. Note the compression reading; it should meet the manufacturer's specifications (generally 180-200 psi).
  4. If the compression is low, further investigation into engine internals may be necessary.
