Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the oil change.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels for safety.
  • Allow the engine to cool down to prevent burns.
2. Drain Old Oil
  • Tools Required: Socket wrench, oil catch pan, funnel.
  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  • Use a socket wrench to remove the oil drain plug and allow old oil to drain completely into the pan.
  • Once drained, replace the drain plug and torque it to the manufacturer’s specification (typically around 20 lb-ft).
3. Replace Oil Filter
  • Tools Required: Oil filter wrench.
  • Locate the oil filter; it’s usually accessible from the bottom of the engine.
  • Use an oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter.
  • Before installing the new oil filter, apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand until it's snug, then tighten it an additional 3/4 turn.
4. Add New Oil
  • Parts Required: New engine oil (5W-20 recommended), new oil filter.
  • Open the hood and remove the oil filler cap.
  • Using a funnel, pour the new engine oil into the oil filler neck. The 10th Generation Civic typically requires about 4.4 quarts (4.2 liters) of oil.
  • Replace the oil filler cap securely.
5. Check Oil Level
  • Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.
  • Turn off the engine and wait for a minute; then check the oil level on the dipstick.
  • Add oil if necessary to bring it to the full mark.
