Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and safety equipment.
  • Tools Required:
    • OBD-II scanner
    • Multimeter
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the battery before working on electrical systems.
2. Remove the Fuel Level Sender Unit
  • Step 1: Relieve the fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump relay and starting the engine until it stalls.
  • Step 2: Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Step 3: Remove the rear seat (if applicable) to access the fuel pump access panel.
  • Step 4: Unplug the electrical connector from the fuel level sender unit.
  • Step 5: Unscrew and remove the fuel level sender unit from the fuel tank.
3. Inspect and Test the Fuel Level Sender Unit
  • Step 1: Visually inspect the sender unit for any signs of corrosion or damage.
  • Step 2: Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the sender unit as you move the float arm. Compare readings to factory specifications.
  • Step 3: If the readings are outside specifications, replace the fuel level sender unit.
4. Reinstall Components
  • Step 1: If replacing, install the new fuel level sender unit into the fuel tank.
  • Step 2: Secure the sender unit with the appropriate torque specifications.
  • Step 3: Reconnect the electrical connector and replace the access panel and rear seat.
  • Step 4: Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
