Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: socket set, wrench set, power steering fluid, and rags.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine.
  • Allow the engine to cool before starting any work.
2. Check and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Open the hood and locate the power steering reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; if low, add the appropriate type of power steering fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
  • If the fluid is dirty or contaminated, proceed to the next step to flush the system.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical issues.
  • Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump by loosening the tensioner bolt.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump (use a container to catch any fluid).
  • Remove the mounting bolts for the pump and take out the pump.
  • Install the new pump by reversing the removal steps. Ensure to torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Hoses
  • Check all power steering hoses for cracks, leaks, or swelling.
  • If damaged, remove the old hoses by loosening the clamps and replace with new hoses.
  • Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
5. Refill and Bleed Power Steering System
  • Refill the power steering reservoir with new fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed any air from the system.
  • Check the fluid level again and add more if necessary.
