Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Check and Replace Transmission Fluid
  • Tools Required: Funnel, transmission fluid (Honda ATF DW-1), clean rags.
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Remove the transmission dipstick and wipe it clean.
    2. Insert the dipstick back and remove it again to check the fluid level.
    3. If fluid is low, add Honda ATF DW-1 fluid through the dipstick tube using a funnel until the correct level is reached.
    4. Check the fluid condition; if it's dark or has a burnt smell, a fluid change is necessary.
3. Change Transmission Fluid and Filter (if needed)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, transmission jack (if needed), new transmission filter and gasket.
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Raise the vehicle securely on jack stands.
    2. Remove the transmission drain plug and drain the old fluid into a suitable container.
    3. Reinstall the drain plug and torque it to the manufacturer’s specifications.
    4. Remove the transmission pan bolts and carefully detach the pan.
    5. Replace the transmission filter and gasket.
    6. Reinstall the transmission pan and torque the bolts to the specified value.
    7. Refill the transmission with new Honda ATF DW-1 through the dipstick tube.
4. Inspect Internal Components (if noise persists)
  • Tools Required: Transmission service manual, various hand tools.
  • Sub-steps:
    1. If the whining noise continues after fluid replacement, further disassembly of the transmission may be required.
    2. Inspect gears, bearings, and shafts for wear or damage.
    3. Replace any worn or damaged components as identified.
