Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, coolant pressure tester, drain pan, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Ensure the engine is cool before starting the work. Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Drain the Coolant
  • Place a drain pan under the radiator.
  • Remove the drain plug from the radiator and allow coolant to drain completely.
  • Replace the drain plug after the coolant has drained.
3. Replace Damaged Components
  • Hoses:
    • If any hoses are cracked or loose, remove the clamps using a screwdriver and pull the hose off.
    • Replace with new hoses and secure with new clamps.
  • Water Pump:
    • If the water pump is leaking, remove the drive belt by loosening the tensioner.
    • Disconnect the water pump by removing the bolts using a socket set. Clean the mating surfaces and install a new water pump with a new gasket.
    • Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Radiator:
    • If the radiator has cracks, remove it by unscrewing the mounting bolts and disconnecting the hoses.
    • Install a new radiator by reversing the removal steps, ensuring all connections are secure.
4. Refill and Bleed the Cooling System
  • Refill the radiator with the appropriate coolant mixture.
  • Start the engine and let it idle, allowing the thermostat to open and circulate coolant.
  • Monitor for air bubbles in the coolant reservoir; add coolant as necessary until the system is bled of air.
5. Final Inspection
  • Recheck all connections for leaks after the engine has run for a few minutes.
  • Ensure the coolant level is at the required mark in the reservoir.
