Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, fluid catch pan, and safety goggles.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and engage the parking brake. Disconnect the battery if necessary.
2. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering reservoir.
  • Check the fluid level; if low, top it up with manufacturer-recommended fluid.
  • If the fluid is dark or contaminated, drain and replace it:
    • Use a fluid catch pan to collect old fluid.
    • Refill with new power steering fluid.
3. Inspect Steering Components
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Visually inspect the steering rack, tie rod ends, and CV joints for visible wear or damage.
  • Replace any damaged components:
    • For tie rod ends, use a socket set to disconnect them from the steering rack and install new ones, torquing to manufacturer specifications.
    • For CV joints, remove the axle nut, disconnect the joint from the transmission, and replace the assembly.
4. Check Wheel Bearings
  • Spin each wheel by hand to listen for grinding noises.
  • If noise is present, remove the wheel and inspect the bearing:
    • Use a socket set to remove the brake caliper and rotor.
    • Inspect the bearing for excessive play; replace if necessary.
5. Reassemble and Lower Vehicle
  • Reinstall any removed components in reverse order.
  • Ensure all bolts are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Lower the vehicle and reconnect the battery if it was disconnected.
