Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, socket set, fluid pump, torque wrench, funnel, power steering fluid.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is turned off. Disconnect the battery for safety.
2. Check and Top Off Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir under the hood.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level against the markings on the reservoir.
  • If low, add the recommended power steering fluid until it reaches the correct level.
3. Inspect and Repair Leaks
  • Visually inspect all power steering hoses and connections for leaks.
  • If any leaks are found, replace the damaged hoses with new ones.
  • Ensure all connections are tightened to manufacturer specifications.
4. Address Steering Rack Issues
  • If the steering rack is damaged or worn, it will need to be replaced.
  • To do this, disconnect the steering column from the rack by removing the universal joint bolts.
  • Remove the bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe and carefully take out the rack.
  • Install the new steering rack and reverse the removal steps, ensuring bolts are torqued to specifications.
5. Reconnect the Battery
  • After completing repairs, reconnect the battery terminals. Ensure they are tight and free of corrosion.
