Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Screwdriver set
    • Transmission filter kit (filter and gasket)
    • Torque wrench
    • Drain pan
    • Funnel
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Drain Transmission Fluid
  • Place the drain pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using the socket set.
  • Carefully lower the pan and allow the fluid to drain completely into the pan.
  • Clean the pan and magnet inside of any metal shavings or debris.
3. Remove Old Transmission Filter
  • Locate the transmission filter once the pan is removed.
  • Remove any screws or clips securing the filter, then pull the old filter out.
  • Inspect the filter mounting area for any debris or contamination.
4. Install New Transmission Filter
  • Apply a light coating of clean transmission fluid to the rubber O-ring of the new filter.
  • Install the new filter by aligning it with the mounting points and securing it with screws or clips.
5. Reinstall Transmission Pan
  • Place a new gasket on the transmission pan and position the pan back onto the transmission.
  • Torque the pan bolts to manufacturer specifications (typically around 10-12 ft-lbs, but consult a service manual for exact values).
6. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Using a funnel, refill the transmission with the appropriate type and amount of new transmission fluid (usually Honda ATF-Z1 or compatible fluid).
  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature, then check the fluid level and add more if necessary.
7. Test and Clean Up
  • Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Start the engine and shift through all gears, checking for proper operation.
  • Check for leaks under the vehicle and clean up any spilled fluid.
