Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, timing belt tool kit, screwdrivers, jack and jack stands, engine support bar (if necessary).
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove Components
  • Radiator and Fan Shroud:

    1. Remove the radiator cap and drain the coolant.
    2. Disconnect the hoses from the radiator and remove the fan shroud.
    3. Unbolt and remove the radiator from the vehicle.
  • Accessory Belts:

    1. Loosen the tension on the accessory belts and remove them from the pulleys.
  • Timing Belt Covers:

    1. Remove the upper and lower timing belt covers by unbolting them.
3. Align Engine to TDC
  • Rotate the crankshaft using a socket and ratchet until the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley aligns with the “TDC” mark on the timing cover.
4. Remove Timing Belt
  1. Loosen and remove the tensioner bolt and take out the tensioner.
  2. Remove the timing belt by sliding it off the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys.
5. Install New Timing Belt
  1. Place the new timing belt onto the crankshaft pulley first, then loop it around the camshaft pulleys while maintaining alignment with the timing marks.
  2. Install the tensioner and tighten to the specified torque (typically around 16-18 ft-lbs).
6. Reassemble Components
  • Reinstall Timing Covers:

    1. Replace the lower and upper timing belt covers, ensuring all bolts are torqued appropriately.
  • Reinstall Radiator and Fan Shroud:

    1. Position the radiator back into place and reconnect all hoses.
    2. Reinstall the fan shroud and secure it.
  • Reattach Accessory Belts:

    1. Install the accessory belts and adjust tension as necessary.
7. Final Checks
  • Refill the cooling system with the appropriate coolant mixture.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
