Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set (10mm and 12mm), ratchet, extension, torque wrench, spark plug socket, feeler gauge, dielectric grease.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical issues during the replacement process.
  • Allow the engine to cool completely before starting the work.
2. Remove Engine Cover
  • If the engine cover is present, use a 10mm socket to remove the bolts securing the cover.
  • Carefully lift off the engine cover and set it aside.
3. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Locate the spark plug wires or ignition coils on each spark plug.
  • If using ignition coils, remove the 10mm bolts securing each coil, then gently pull the coils straight up to detach them.
  • Use a spark plug socket with a ratchet to loosen and remove the old spark plugs, turning counterclockwise. Be cautious to avoid dropping debris into the combustion chamber.
4. Inspect and Prepare New Spark Plugs
  • Check the gap on the new spark plugs using a feeler gauge and adjust to the manufacturer’s specifications if necessary (typically around 0.044 inches for Honda engines).
  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the threads of the new spark plugs to prevent seizing.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Carefully thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading.
  • Use a torque wrench to tighten the spark plugs to the manufacturer’s recommended torque (usually around 13 lb-ft for Honda spark plugs).
  • Reinstall the ignition coils or spark plug wires, ensuring they are seated properly.
6. Reinstall Engine Cover
  • Place the engine cover back onto the engine and secure it with the bolts removed earlier.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
