Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Wrench set
    • Torque wrench
    • Tie rod end puller (or a hammer)
    • Steering wheel lock
  • Lift the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel using a socket wrench.
  • Remove the wheel to access the tie rod ends.
3. Remove the Tie Rod End
  • Safety Warning: Ensure the vehicle is securely supported on jack stands.
  • Use a tie rod end puller to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. If necessary, tap with a hammer to loosen it.
  • Remove the nut securing the tie rod end to the steering knuckle, then pull out the tie rod end.
4. Install the New Tie Rod End
  • Apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new tie rod end.
  • Insert the new tie rod end into the steering knuckle and secure it with the provided nut.
  • Torque the nut to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 45-50 ft-lbs).
5. Adjust the Tie Rod Length (if necessary)
  • If replacing one tie rod end, measure the length of the old tie rod end and adjust the new one to match for proper alignment.
  • Use the wrench to tighten the locking nut on the tie rod end.
6. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then fully tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications (typically 80-100 ft-lbs).
7. Alignment Check
  • After replacing tie rod ends, it's essential to have the vehicle aligned to ensure proper handling and tire wear.
