Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, wrench set, socket set, torque wrench, ball joint separator, impact wrench (optional).
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported on jack stands before working underneath.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the wheel lug nuts while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it on jack stands.
  • Completely remove the wheel.
3. Remove the Ball Joint
  • Disconnect Components: Remove any components that obstruct access to the ball joint (e.g., brake caliper, rotor if necessary).
  • Remove the Ball Joint Nut: Using a socket wrench, remove the nut securing the ball joint to the control arm.
  • Separate the Ball Joint: Use a ball joint separator or a pickle fork to carefully separate the ball joint from the control arm. If necessary, tap gently with a hammer.
  • Remove the Ball Joint: If the ball joint is pressed into the control arm, use a ball joint press to extract it.
4. Install New Ball Joint
  • Prepare New Ball Joint: Ensure the new ball joint is compatible and clean.
  • Press in New Ball Joint: Using the ball joint press, install the new ball joint into the control arm, ensuring it is seated properly.
  • Reattach Components: Reinstall the ball joint nut and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  • Reinstall Any Removed Components: Reattach the brake caliper, rotor, and any other components removed during disassembly.
5. Reinstall Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
