Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and securely lifted if necessary.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
2. Check and Replace Power Steering Fluid
  1. Locate the power steering reservoir.
  2. Remove the cap and check the fluid level; add appropriate fluid if low.
  3. If the fluid is dirty or contaminated, proceed to replace it:
    • Use a turkey baster to remove old fluid from the reservoir.
    • Refill with new power steering fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
    • Start the engine and turn the wheel from lock to lock to purge old fluid from the system.
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  1. Remove the serpentine belt by loosening the tensioner.
  2. Disconnect the power steering pump inlet and outlet hoses.
  3. Unbolt the power steering pump from its bracket and remove it.
  4. Install the new power steering pump and reconnect the hoses.
  5. Reinstall the serpentine belt and ensure proper tension.
4. Inspect and Replace Steering Rack (if necessary)
  1. Safely lift and support the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect the steering linkage from the steering rack.
  3. Remove the power steering hoses connected to the rack.
  4. Unbolt the steering rack from its mounting points and remove it from the vehicle.
  5. Install the new steering rack and reconnect all components in reverse order.
