Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, brake cleaner, wire brush, torque wrench.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface. Use jack stands to secure the vehicle after lifting.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is still on the ground.
  • Use the jack to lift the rear of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the rear wheel.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Components

A. Remove Brake Caliper

  • Tools Required: Socket set.
  • Remove the caliper mounting bolts and carefully slide the caliper off the rotor.
  • Support the caliper with a bungee cord or wire to avoid straining the brake line.

B. Remove Brake Pads

  • Slide the old brake pads out from the caliper bracket.
  • Inspect the brake pad backing for wear indicators and replace if necessary.

C. Inspect and Replace Brake Rotor (if needed)

  • Check the rotor for damage and thickness. If it is below the manufacturer’s minimum thickness or has significant scoring, it should be replaced.
  • Remove the rotor by unscrewing any retaining screws or using a slide hammer if necessary.

D. Install New Brake Components

  • Clean the new rotor with brake cleaner to remove any protective coating.
  • Install the new rotor onto the hub.
  • Slide new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  • Reinstall the caliper over the new pads and torque the caliper mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
4. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications using a torque wrench.
  • Pump the brake pedal a few times to seat the brake pads against the rotors.
