Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical issues.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and place it on jack stands.
  • Remove the lug nuts using a socket wrench and take off the wheel.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  • Inspect Brake Pads:
    • Check the thickness of the pads; replace if below manufacturer specifications (typically less than 3 mm).
  • Remove Brake Caliper:
    • Use a socket wrench to remove caliper mounting bolts.
    • Carefully lift the caliper off the rotor and suspend it using a bungee cord to avoid stress on the brake line.
  • Remove Old Brake Pads:
    • Slide the old pads out of the caliper bracket.
  • Install New Brake Pads:
    • Apply brake grease to the back of the new pads.
    • Slide the new pads into the caliper bracket.
4. Inspect and Resurface/Replace Rotors
  • Inspect Rotors:
    • Check for grooves or uneven wear; if necessary, use a micrometer to measure thickness.
  • Resurface or Replace Rotors:
    • If rotors are within specs, consider resurfacing; if below minimum thickness, replace them.
  • Reinstall Rotors:
    • Place the rotor back on the hub if resurfacing; otherwise, install the new rotor.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reattach the caliper over the new pads and torque the mounting bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten lug nuts in a star pattern.
  • Lower the vehicle and reconnect the negative battery terminal.
