Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, screwdrivers, timing belt tool kit, pulley puller, and a jack with jack stands.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove Engine Covers
  • Remove the plastic engine cover by unscrewing bolts or clips holding it in place.
  • If applicable, remove the timing belt cover by unscrewing the bolts securing it.
3. Align Engine to Top Dead Center (TDC)
  • Rotate the crankshaft using a socket wrench until the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley aligns with the TDC mark on the engine block.
  • Ensure the camshaft timing marks are also aligned correctly.
4. Remove Old Timing Belt
  • Release tension from the timing belt tensioner using the appropriate tool.
  • Carefully remove the timing belt from the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets, ensuring that you do not disturb the camshaft or crankshaft positions.
5. Replace Timing Belt Components
  • Inspect and replace the timing belt tensioner and idler pulley. Remove them by unscrewing the mounting bolts.
  • Install the new tensioner and idler pulley, tightening them to the manufacturer's specifications.
6. Install New Timing Belt
  • Loop the new timing belt around the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets, ensuring it is properly seated in the teeth.
  • Reapply tension to the timing belt using the tensioner. Make sure that the belt is tight but not overly so.
7. Reassemble
  • Reinstall the timing belt cover and any engine covers removed earlier. Secure them with the appropriate bolts.
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
