Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, timing belt tool, flathead screwdriver, jack and jack stands, oil catch pan.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.
2. Remove Components
  • 2.1. Drain Engine Oil

    • Place an oil catch pan under the oil pan.
    • Remove the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely.
    • Replace the drain plug after draining.
  • 2.2. Remove Engine Covers

    • Use a socket set to remove the upper engine cover and any components obstructing access to the timing belt.
  • 2.3. Remove the Serpentine Belt

    • Loosen the tensioner using a wrench and slide the serpentine belt off the pulleys.
3. Access the Timing Belt
  • 3.1. Remove the Crankshaft Pulley

    • Use a socket set to remove the crankshaft pulley bolt; you may need to hold the crankshaft in place using a timing tool.
    • Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  • 3.2. Remove Timing Belt Covers

    • Unscrew and remove the timing belt covers to expose the timing belt.
4. Replace Timing Belt
  • 4.1. Align Timing Marks

    • Rotate the crankshaft to align the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets according to the service manual.
  • 4.2. Remove Old Timing Belt

    • Release tension on the timing belt tensioner and remove the old timing belt from the sprockets.
  • 4.3. Install New Timing Belt

    • Route the new timing belt around the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets following the correct path.
    • Ensure the belt is tight on the tensioner side and check the alignment of timing marks.
5. Reassemble Components
  • 5.1. Reinstall Timing Belt Covers

    • Secure the timing belt covers back into place.
  • 5.2. Reinstall Crankshaft Pulley

    • Place the crankshaft pulley back on and tighten the bolt to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  • 5.3. Reinstall Serpentine Belt

    • Route the serpentine belt back over the pulleys and adjust the tensioner.
  • 5.4. Reinstall Engine Covers

    • Replace any engine covers that were removed during the process.
6. Final Steps
  • Refill the engine with oil if necessary and reconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Start the engine and check for any unusual noises or leaks.
