Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, extension bar, anti-seize lubricant, dielectric grease, ratchet.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal using a socket wrench to avoid electrical shorts.
  • Gather replacement spark plugs that match OEM specifications (usually NGK or Denso for Honda).
2. Remove Engine Cover
  • If your Accord has an engine cover, remove it by unscrewing or unclipping it.
  • Keep track of screws or clips for reinstallation.
3. Access Spark Plugs
  • Locate the ignition coil packs on top of the engine; these are usually mounted directly over each spark plug.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil by pressing the clip and pulling it away.
4. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts securing each ignition coil.
  • Gently pull each coil out of the spark plug well to avoid damaging them.
5. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Using the spark plug socket and ratchet, carefully unscrew and remove each spark plug from the cylinder head.
  • Inspect each plug for signs of wear or damage.
6. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the new spark plugs to prevent seizing.
  • Hand-tighten each new spark plug into place, then use a torque wrench to tighten them to the manufacturer's specified torque (typically around 13-15 lb-ft).
7. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Reinsert each ignition coil into its respective spark plug well.
  • Secure each coil with its original bolt and reconnect the electrical connector.
8. Reattach Engine Cover
  • If removed, reinstall the engine cover, securing it with the screws or clips.
9. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
