Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather Tools and Parts:
    • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, ratchet, extension bar, torque specifications chart.
    • Parts Required: New spark plugs (OEM recommended), anti-seize compound (optional), dielectric grease (optional).
2. Access Spark Plugs
  • Remove Engine Cover:

    • Use a socket or ratchet to remove bolts securing the engine cover.
    • Carefully lift off the engine cover and set aside.
  • Disconnect Ignition Coils:

    • Locate the ignition coils on top of the engine.
    • Disconnect the electrical connectors by pressing the tab and pulling straight out.
    • Remove the bolts holding the ignition coils in place using a socket.
3. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Extract Spark Plugs:
    • Use the spark plug socket attached to an extension bar to reach the spark plugs.
    • Turn counterclockwise to loosen and remove each spark plug.
    • Inspect the condition of each plug as it is removed.
4. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Prepare New Spark Plugs:

    • If using anti-seize compound, apply a small amount to the threads of each new spark plug (avoid getting it on the electrode).
  • Install New Spark Plugs:

    • Carefully thread each new spark plug into its respective cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading.
    • Use the torque wrench to tighten each spark plug to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 13 ft-lbs for Honda engines, but confirm in the service manual).
5. Reassemble Components
  • Reinstall Ignition Coils:

    • Place each ignition coil back in position and secure with bolts.
    • Reconnect the electrical connectors until they click into place.
  • Replace Engine Cover:

    • Position the engine cover back onto the engine.
    • Secure it with the previously removed bolts.
